เรียนวิทยาศาสตร์แล้วเครียด!

คนไทยได้ความคิดมาจากไหนก็ไม่รู้ กลัวเครียดกันเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ในเรื่องนี้เองที่ทำให้เกิดความเชื่อที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อการเรียนด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ในเมืองไทย เพราะหลายคนเชื่อว่าเรียนวิทยาศาสตร์มากๆ แล้วจะเครียด จนกลัวไปเลยไม่กล้าเรียนวิทยาศาสตร์ วิทยาศาสตร์ทำให้เครียดจริงหรือเปล่า?

กรณีศึกษาที่ดีมากและช่วยตอบคำถามนี้ได้ คือโรงเรียนมหิดลวิทยานุสรณ์ เพราะเป็นโรงเรียนวิทยาศาสตร์แห่งแรกของประเทศไทยที่คัดเลือกทั้งนักเรียนและครูทั่วประเทศที่มีความเป็นเลิศในด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และคณิตศาสตร์มารวมไว้ เรียนวิทยาศาสตร์แล้วจะเครียดหรือไม่ก็ควรส่องกล้องดูว่านักเรียนที่โรงเรียนมหิดลฯ เครียดหรือไม่

เมื่อแรกตั้งโรงเรียนพิเศษแห่งนี้ มีผู้ติงไว้มากว่าต้องคิดถึงเรื่องความเครียดและสภาพทางใจของนักเรียนด้วย มิใช่คิดถึงความเป็นเลิศทางวิชาการอย่างเดียว การจัดกิจกรรมโรงเรียนจึงตั้งอยู่บนฐานของความสมดุจมาตั้งแต่ต้น โดยเน้นองค์ประกอบสามด้าน คือ

    -นักเรียนต้องภาคภูมิใจในความเป็นไทย
    -นักเรียนต้องมีสุขภาพอนามัยที่แข็งแรงและดูแลรักษาสุขภาพตัวเองได้
    -นักเรียนต้องพัฒนาความรู้ความสามารถทางวิทยาศาสตร์อยู่ตลอดเวลา

กิจกรรมของโรงเรียนในแต่ละวันจึงหลากหลายคลุกเคล้ากัน เกิดความสมดุลระหว่างวิชาการ นันทนาการ การออกกำลังกาย และ ศิลปวัฒธรรม สภาของโรงเรียนในขณะนี้ดีกว่าโรงเรียนคณิตศาสตร์ในเยอรมนี ที่วันหนึ่งๆ ไม่ได้ทำอะไรมากไปกว่านั่งอยู่บนโต๊ะแล้วแก้ปัญหาโจทย์คณิตศาสตร์ โทรทัศน์ก็ไม่ได้ดู เมื่อถามว่าเอาแต่แก้โจทย์ปัญหาคณิตศาสตร์โดยไม่ไปเที่ยวไม่ไปเล่นบ้างชีวิตนี้จะมีความสุขหรือ เด็กก็ตอบว่า ความสุขของเขาอยู่ที่การเอาชนะปัญหาโจทย์คณิตศาสตร์ได้ ในที่สุดก็พบว่าเด็กเหล่านี้จบการศึกษาในระดับสูงและประสบความสำเร็จในกิจการงาน แต่ขาดความสุขในชีวิตครอบครัวและลงท้ายด้วยความรู้สึกสูญเสียแทบทุกอย่าง เป็นความเศร้าที่รัฐบาลเยอรมันชุดต่อๆ มาพยายามแก้ไข

วิทยาศาสตร์ไม่ได้นำความเครียดมาสู่ผู้เรียนครับ กระบวนการเรียนรู้ที่ขาดความสมดุลต่างหากที่ก่อปัญหาความทุกข์ในการเรียน ถ้าเรียนให้สนุกและมีความสุขแล้ว ไม่มีวิชาการด้านใดเลยที่จะนำความเครียดและความทุกข์มาสู่ตัวเราได้
